The coming of the Dark brought terrible creatures out of mankind's past and their worst nightmares. With the advent of magic and the coming of the gods, yet more fantastic creatures began to populate the earth. Today, the world is full of amazing ecological diversity.
In the Harvest Moon Campaign World, the monsters are nearly all on par with PCs of their level. A level 6 Cockatrice is generally as powerful as a level 6 Human Adventurer. Some monsters, even in this system, are simply more powerful. To date, True Dragons are the only creature type which break the rules (they often have triple the hit points they should have).
Monsters which do not carry and/or don magical items are at a particular disadvantage with this system unless the GM tailors the creature to prepare for it. A creature without the benefit of magic items recieves three additional Defining Abilities per level starting at level 4. These abilities are not included in any of the monster descriptions. It is up to the GM to add them when he feels the need to. Often, it is easiest to use these abilities for simple modifications such as additional hit points, increased speed, or spell-like abilities.
